Mangalore Feb 19, 2016: The second phase of Pulse Polio immunisation will be held on February 21,  said Health Minister UT Khader.

Speaking to the Press at Circuit House on  Feb 19, Friday Khader said that the last polio case registered in the district was in 1999. The first phase of Pulse Polio immunisation which was held on Jan 17 was a successful one, he said adding it is estimated to reach 74.39 lakh children below age five all over the state during the second phase of the drive.

For those kids who missed out during the February 21 Pulse Polio drive, the drops will be administer ed on February 22  to 24  through home visits, he informed.

He also said that there are a total of 32617 polio booths for which 1,03,464 volunteers have been appointed. Across the state there are 2900 high risk areas where workers who have migrated from other places stay. A total of 1736 transit teams have been appointed to administer Polio drops in public places in order to help those in transit, commuters as well as tourists.

Khader also made a request to parents to compulsorily take their children below five years to the respective Pulse Polio booths on February 21.
