Mangalore, Oct 06, 2014: H-198, the second Hovercraft aimed at boosting the security of the Coast Guard arrived at Panambur on October 6, Monday from Mumbai. The second hovercraft has arrived here almost a fortnight after the arrival of H-196, the first hovercraft.
The UK built H-198 can travel upto a maximum speed of 52 knots and is equipped with heavy machine guns, satellite phones, radar and navigation equipment to perform surveillance, rescue and search operations. It can also patrol in places which are inaccessible even by ships, informed Coast Guard Commander Rajmani Sharma.
A Banerjee is the Commandant of the Hovercraft which has eleven crew members who have been trained in London.
Both the Hovercrafts will be ready for operation within a few weeks.
