Malpe, Jan 10, 2018: Visitors to the picturesque Malpe beach on January 9, Tuesday were in for a pleasant shock as well as a surprise as they watched the sea water turn green in colour.
It is believed that this phenomenon is due to an algal bloom as the algae that grows beneath the reefs in the sea bed, move up due to the strong winds and the floating particles of algae colour the water.
A local fishermen says sea water turning green was very rare and suspects this might be due to the recent cyclonic effect.
