Mangaluru, Jan 09, 2015: The advancements in modern scientific field should help in serving the needs of the people, said Prof. UR Rao, former chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
He was speaking on the topic ‘Science in Action-Role of Academicians and Industries” at the inaugural function of a three-day workshop on “Science in Action” at the St Agnes College here on January 8, Wednesday. Prof. Rao further also stated that scientific research would also go a long way in increasing agricultural yield.
On this occasion, Prof. Rao told people not to go in for some beliefs that ancient India had aircrafts and that scriptures mentioned about the same.
He said in future the power generation field would greatly benefit when moon can provide helium 3.
At the same time he regretted the fact that despite India’s great achievements in the field of science and technology it has not been able to manufacture aircraft. The amount spent on purchasing an aircraft from other nations is more than suffice for a Mars Mission, he observed.
P. Chowdappa, Director, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod, in his address, exhorted students about the career prospects in agricultural business and farming and added that they should look beyond the Information Technology sector.
