Science Talent Hunt, NAIN Centre at Sahyadri, DCM to launch

Mangaluru, Nov 15, 2019: The fifth edition of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management’s Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSHT),  will showcase as many as 350 projects to the public, on the Sahyadri campus, November 16, Saturday.    “A panel of experts will shortlist 40 ideas with the objective to convert them into products and start-ups. Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan will inaugurate the talent hunt and New Age Incubation (NAIN) Centre on November 16,”  Project Coordinator Johnson Tellis explained to media at the Patrika Bhavan.

Prof Tellis said that the initiative was taken to motivate students aged between six and 12 years in the district to find solutions to problems. “Community workshops were conducted in 200 schools. Nearly 10,000 students have benefited from the workshops. Among them, 1,200 students have submitted over 350 projects under six sectors, including fisheries and waste management,” Tellis said.


NAIN Manager Ashwin Shetty said that the centre, supported by K-tech Innovation, had so far incubated 11 projects. Two funded by Elevate 2019, ‘Utkarsha’ (autonomous vehicles) and ‘Samarpan’ (insulin packages) will soon shift to its premises to begin commercial production.

Prior to organising the Science Talent hunt, the college is organising a two-day event ‘Be With Engineering’ till November 15. The event facilitates interaction between stake holders and is a welcome event.
