Sandesha Awards presented to seven outstanding personalities

Mangaluru, Jan 14, 2017 : As many as seven achievers in various fields were conferred the 26th Annual Sandesha Awards at a ceremony organised at Sandesha premises on January 13 under the aegis of the Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education.

The recipients of the Award are  : Dr Kamala Hampana ( Sandesha Literature Award),  noted actor Prakash Rai (Sandesha Media Award), folk singer Yuvaraj K (Sandesha Art Award),  Anil Patrao (Konkani Music Award), John Devaraj( Sandesha Special Recognition Award ) and  Renita Lobo and Shamita  Rao (Sandesha Education Award).

 

 

 

 

The Awardees were selected by a jury comprising  Na D’Souza, Richard Louis, Dr Na Damodar Shetty, Eric Ozario, Chandrakala Nandavar and Sara Aboobakar.
Fr Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Ballari who presided over the function, congratulated all the awardees and said  all of them through their achievements have become an inspiration of the younger generation.

 Speaking after receiving the Award, Kamala Hampana said  it was a great honour to receive the award. She also recalled her visit to Dharmasthala for a Sahitya Sammelan when she was just 26.

Actor Prakash Rai who also thanked Sandesha for the Award requested that farmers too should be recognised for their contributions to the nation.

Other Sandesha Awardees also spoke at the function.

Manu Baligar, Kannada Sahitya Parishat President, JR Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South, Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese, Ivan D’Souza, Chief Whip of Legislative Council,  Na. D’Souza, veteran writer, Fr Victor Vijay Lobo, Sandesha President, Roy Castelino, Konkani Sahitya Academy President and others were present.
