Samithi protests against toll collection at Sasthan

Udupi, Nov 26, 2018: Heavy police security has been deployed at the Sasthan toll gate in view of the protests by the Rashtriya Heddari Jagrithi Samithi  condemning the  decision of the government permitting the Navayuga company and NHAI to collect toll from local vehicles too with effect from Monday.

 

The protestors were adamant that toll collection should begin only after the service road, flyover and  pedestrian under pass  construction was complete.  The Samithi also stated that any decision should be taken after the November 28 meet convened by the Udupi District in-charge Minister.

After  efforts by the police to pacify the agitators proved futile, the  latter were detained as a precautionary measure.

Presently, toll collection is underway amid police security. As many as 200 police personnel have been deployed in the area.
