The coffee table book has a first person narrative by the author and traces his journey from being a herpetologist and photographer to his development into a contributor towards conservation efforts in Karnataka.

Having grown up in the verdant coastal town of Udupi and later, living in the hilly Kodagu, enabled Sathisha to study snakes in real-life conditions and take the leap from being a nature photographer to a herpetologist. He is immensely proud of having rescued thousands of snakes, with more than a hundred among them being king cobras, in the Western Ghats, the state’s precious biodiversity hotspot. At present, Sathisha serves as the regional manager, Infrastructure, Mysuru, at the Infosys Ltd.

The chapter on king cobra specifically has spectacular and unique photos of the animal that are painstakingly captured and presented with relevant captions.

Similarly, the chapters on leopards and tigers are noteworthy not only for the gorgeous photos, but also for the statistics and data that add to the authenticity of the publication. The last chapter is on the Indian elephant and reveal Sathisha’s concern for the pachyderm that is facing threats to its existence from multiple sectors, according to a press release.

The book also comprises photos of his sojourns into the wilds with Dr Karanth and Dr Raghu Chundawat, another well-known conservationist, as well as Dr George Schaller, considered by many to be the father of modern field biology.

Wildlife Conservation Society (Science-Asia) director Dr Ullas Karanth, assistant conservator of forests Ravindra Kumar, Tarjani Communications Pvt Ltd editor Bharathi Shevgoor and Infosys Ltd executive vice-president Ramadas Kamath U, who is also the publisher, were present.  The 320-page book, designed by Tarjani Communications in Mangaluru, has a foreword by Dr Ullas Karanth.
