Safe driving campaign among students

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, July 23, 2015 :  Udupi district police are on a campaign to promote safe driving among college students.  The police apart from counselling students against over sppeding , rash and negligent driving, would also summon parents and make them aware of facts.   Police will advise parents on the problems posed by rash and negligent driving and  tell them to advise their children to wear helmets in the interest of safety.

Safe driving.
The police have asked 20 students to get their parents to the district police office. The drive is a vital effort from the police, SP Annamalai checked the registration certificates and driving licences of students who were driving motorcycles. He advised them against fast driving and also asked them to wear helmets.

The idea of the police is not to harass students. It will just check  DLs and RCs of the vehicles. The pictures of their DLs and RCs  will be retained and students asked to send their parents to the district police office. We believe this will go a long way in creating awareness on road safety and preventing accidents.  Wearing helmets is not compulsory in Udupi. There is no notification to that effect, but police will advise all concerned.
