SW monsoon in sight on DK coast says IMD

Mangaluru, June 2,2017:The signs are open to see and the meteorological department has predicted that monsoons will arrive on west coast in the next 48 hours.

Though the department has predicted that monsoon would arrive in the state on June 3, it seems like it has already arrived. The region is getting good showers for the last few days, with dark skies predicting more rain.

Udupi has been going through the water crisis, which forced the City municipal Council to supply drinking water once in four days from the past one week. Seems it will ease the situation now.

Director, IMD, Bengaluru said the coast has been getting pre-monsoon showers and the conditions do not indicate that monsoon has set in there. "The conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka in next 48 hours,’’ he said.

The southwest monsoon set in over Kerala two days before the actual date predicted by IMD. There has been widespread rainfall all over Kerala and 78% of the IMD’s monitoring stations for monsoon onset over Kerala have reported rainfall.


The rainfall effect has seen temperatures dipping to a comfortable level. Panambur weather observatory recorded a dip in minimum temperature by one degree celsius to 23.6. The minimum temperatures in Karwar and Honnavar also saw a similar dip to 25.5 and 23.5 degree celsius respectively. The maximum temperatures too have come down with Karwar recording 28.6 degree celsius, which is minus four degree cenlsius than the normal maximum for the month of May and Mangaluru by one degree celsius at 30.9,
