SSLC Students can learn their lessons through radio

Mangaluru: August 6, 2015: Radio is a powerful medium to impart education. It is used for disseminatinginformation as well as providing entertainment.

It spreads information to greater group of population thereby saving time, energy, money and manpower in an effective way, said B V Padma, station director, All India Radio, Mangaluru.

Padma inaugurated the function radio classes for SSLC students and radio distribution to schools at the regional office, Vijaya Bank, Mangaluru.

Vijaya Rural Development foundation, Mangaluru organized the function in connection with silver jubilee celebration. Although Akashvani is a public media, it functions more than that, and caters to information and entertainment and education to the masses, she said. Lauding the move by Vijaya Bank in this endeavor, she said it is a good sign that banks are extending their hands with the education department in ensuring that the programme reaches the intended audience.

Radio is a simple and cheap medium readily available. Now small and handy transistors are also available with even poorest of people.

Radio can be used as an effective and interesting tool in education both formal and non-formal education, said Vasanth Kumar Perla, assistant station director, AIR in his address.

Radhakrishna Bhat, official from DDPI office said it is noteworthy that AIR started educational broadcast and it reaches all schools in the district.

AIR, Mangaluru, will broadcast English and Maths lessons as part of "Banuli Shale", a radio serial on every Thursday and Tuesday from 11am to 11.30am from August 6 to November 3 for SSLC students.

The organizers distributed 100 radio sets to the rural schools in DK district during the function in the presence of schoolchildren and head masters of the respective institution.
