SI and 3 policemen detained for Cattle trader’s murder

Udupi, June 04, 2018: Police on June 3, Sunday arrested six more persons including a police sub-inspector, his driver and a head constable in onnection with the suspicious death of cattle trader, Husseinabba. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to 10.

Four persons - VHP district president Suresh Mendon and Prakash Kondadi, Ratan and Umesh Shetty, all Bajrang Dal activists - have already been arrested in the case.

Giving details of the incident, Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi said that the above said four men intercepted a vehicle transporting cattle in the wee hours of May 29, in the presence of police.

They assaulted Husseinabba and handed him over to the police. The police took Husseinabba to the police station in the official vehicle.

However, by the time they reached the police station, Husseinabba was dead.
The police, with the help of Kondadi and others,
brought the body back and dropped it about one kilometre away from the police station. Later, the police registered a case of unnatural death.

The sub-inspector of Hiriyadka police station, D N Kumar, had investigated the case and he was placed under suspension two days ago.

On Sunday, six persons including inspector Kumar, his jeep driver Gopal and head constable Mohan Kotwal were arrested. The other three are: Chethan alias Chethan Acharya, Shailesh Shetty, Ganesh Acharya - who are activists of either the VHP or Bajrang Dal.

The SP said that the police were yet to receive the post-mortem report.
