SDMIT Cubers largest dual side Rubik’s cube mosaic gets Guinness certification, Feb 19

Mangaluru, Feb 20, 2017: On  Gandhi Jayanti day  last year, Oct 2, 2016,  SDMIT cubers had made an effort to come up with largest dual side Rubik’s cube mosaic has officially passed muster with Guinness Book of World Records. Twenty final year students of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunateshwara Institute of Technology (SDMIT) created the Rubik’s Cube mosaic measuring 14.981 m² (165.25 ft²), which Guinness officials recognized on January 13, 2017 and dispatched the certificate to the college authorities.

The mosaic consisted of 4,500 cubes and depicted images of Charlie Chaplin and Mr Bean on either side of a single cube wall. The team members consisted of Prithveesh K, Sharathkrishna K, Viresh S B, Shanthinath B K, Shiva Kumar T, Vinay T, Swapnil A, Prajwal Patil, Prahlad M M, Harikrishna V, Sathwik S P, Stephen K A, Madhur, Karthik M, Mallanagoud Meti, Sujay S, Sanjay Holla, Rohan, Shayeel S Naik, Shiva H, Guinness stated in its website.

The feat that was videographed as per norms and  was verified by Vivek Prasad Mada, Shivaprasad Ajila, PWD engineer and Ganapathy Bhat Kulavarma, principal, Government First Grade College. The video and the certification by the trio was sent to Guinness office in London, which after verification recognized it as largest dual side Rubik’s cube mosaic. D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala handed over the certificate on Feb 19, Sunday.

The team spent Rs 4 lakh to set up the record. Incidentally, the Guinness record for the largest Rubik’s Cube mosaic measures 277.18 m² (2,983.54 ft²) and was created by Josh Chalom of the USA who unveiled it at One Central Macau, China on December 7, 2012. The mosaic depicted an image of some famous views in Macau. There are 85,626 cubes were used to create the mosaic. The mosaic measures 68.78 m (225 ft 7.87 in) by 4.03 m (13 ft 2.66 in). Indeed this is a record to appreciate.
