SDM College hosts national conference on women empowerment

Mangalore, Feb 12: Honourable Sheriff of Mumbai Dr Indu Shahani inaugurated a national conference on “Women Empowerment – Power of the Nation” organized by SDM College of Business Management and Post Graduate Management Studies & Research in the Conference Hall of SDM College on Feb 12, Saturday.

Delivering the inaugural speech on the occasion, Ms Shahani said that autonomy encourages innovative thought. She also said that Mumbai University was the first university to apply for autonomy in 2002. She also recalled that when the degree results were out, it turned out that nine of the ten girl students had topped.


Expressing her delight that a large number of teachers are women, she said that a number of girls get educated, but very few of them get into the profession. She pointed out that less than 9 percent of the women of India can be seen at the corporate level.


Speaking highly of women’s common sense, she said that if a woman is passionate enough, she can achieve anything, adding that women need to balance a lot in life and make a number of adjustments. Stating that 50 percent of the world’s population is below the age of 21, she said that young people are the future of the country.


Dr. Sudha Rao, the CEO of SDME Society presided over the event.
