SCST Welfare Committee stages protest against acquisition of land reserved for Dalits

Mangaluru Aug 22, 2016: SCST Welfare Committee staged a protest in front of MCC office on August 22, Monday against MCC officials  over the  acquisition of land reserved for the depressed classes, for constructing an illegal building.

Addressing  the protestors, Dalit leader Balakrishna alleged that nearly 1.2 acre of land has been acquired for constructing building in land reserved for Dalits. He also criticised the authorities for not implementing the Ambedkar Bhavan and training centre project despite putting forth the proposal years ago.

During the recent public meeting  though  MLA Mohiudeen Bava assured to provide Rs 50 lakhs for constructing Ambedkar Bhavan, now foundation stone has been laid for public toilet in the reserved land in Kavoor, he said and alleged that so far authorities have not taken any action against illegal construction.

Dalit leader Ashok Konchady said that nearly 2,000 acres of land in Dakshina Kannada is  reserved for Dalits, but the same are acquired by influential people for constructing illegal buildings. He demanded strict action against those who have encroached DC Manna Land which is reserved for SCSTs.

 Mayor Harinath who had in the past participated in the protest against alleged assault of a Dalit in MUDA  was today silent on the issue of DC Manna Land, the protestors said  and added that  the Commissioner should take strict action against the violators.
