The order was passed after hearing a complaint filed by environment activist Somashekar.  The Advocate, arguing in favor of Somashekar, said that several trees had been cut down for the project and it would lead to environmental imbalance and disaster. However, the Advocate, arguing in favor of the state government said that the trees were cut down only after receiving necessary permission.

The Bench has reportedly said that no more trees had to be cut and that the number of trees cut so far for the project had to be stated during the next hearing. It also directed authorities that ten times more saplings had to be planted for every tree that was cut. This is looked upon as a serious loss of face for the Karnataka Govt and authorities.
