The woman named Sumithra who participated in the meeting said a neighbour had tried to kill her by poisoning the water tank while she was pregnant. The police complaint was futile, she said and added that she did not trust the lab test  of water and demanded a suitable probe.

The Commissioner’s reply that the matter has already been probed and action taken after the lab test report as well medical examination report was secured, that did not satisfy the woman who threatened a dharna. Finally, the Commissioner said DCP Vishnuvardhan will conduct a spot investigation following which suitable action would be taken.

The meeting also brought to the fore the differences between different Dalit organisations. If Ramya from Ullal complained that she was being harassed by Ullal cops  on the pretext of a complaint against her, some other Dalit representatives alleged that Ramya was helping a Muslim woman build a house illegally on a land reserved for SC/STs.

Complaints on misuse of SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act  also came up for discussion.

DCP Dr Jagadish, ACPs Pavan Nejjur, Tilakachandra, Ravi Kumar, Udaya Nayak, Subrahmanya and others were present.
