Mangaluru, August 15, 2020: Rumours are rife that the banned satellite phone call signals have been traced in the coastal region during the past three to four days. However, neither the Police nor the Intelligence Department have confirmed this news.
There were similar rumours last year in Belthangady and earlier this year in Bantwal. "In coastal region those venturing into deep sea fishing use satellite phones. The satellite phone named "Thurai" is banned only in India. It is but natural for the signals to miss and pass through the district from ships that sail through the borders," say Intelligence Department sources.
It is being said that satellite phone calls have been made between August 10 and 12 at Honnavar, Kumta, Mysuru, Mandya and Gerusoppa.
