Ruling party MLA behind illegal quarrying , alleges Ramanatha Rai

Mangaluru, Oct 17, 2020:    Senior Congress leader and former minister B Ramanatha Rai has alleged the  involvement of a ruling party MLA in an illegal quarrying  activitiy that was underway  in the district since the past several months.

Speaking  to reporters at the party office on October 17, Saturday, Rai  said a relative of a ruling party MLA after availing permit for quarrying at Ganjimutt in Badaga Edapadavu village was  engaged in quarrying in Mudipu. He said the MLA and the authoriteis were aware of this.

Rai said illegal quarrying was underway unabatedly at Mudipu, Balepuni and Inoli areas and alleged that this has incurred a loss of around Rs 50 crore to the state exchequer. Apart from locals, even some people from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh were involved in this illegal activity, he said.

Rai said though the Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner had once raided the  illegal quarry at Mudipu area, he has now been transferred. Rai demanded immediate end to this unlawful activity and  urged the goernemtn to probe the issue.

DCC Chief Harish Kumar, District Youth Congress President  Mithun Rai, Corporators Abdul Ravoof, Shashidhar Hegde,  Naveen D’Souiza and others were present.
