Rs 50 lakhs for Charmadi Ghat road repair; works to complete in a week: Abhayachandra

Belthangady, Jan 11, 2015: State minister for Youth Services and Chikkamagaluru District in-charge Minister Abhayachandra Jain has said that the state government has released Rs 50 lakhs for the emergency repair of the Charmadi Ghat which has to sustain increased traffic in the wake of closure of Shiradi Ghat stretch. The Minister also said the Charmadi Ghat road repair works would be complete within a week.
He was speaking to media on January 10, Saturday night at the Forest Guest House at Moodigere after inspecting Charmadi Ghat works along with DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai.
Abhaya said the PWD Minister would be asked to visit the spot within a week and also appeals would be made to repair Shishila Bhairapur and Bisile Ghat road. Hr also alleged that the Charmadi Ghat road was recently blocked owing to negligence of officials.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim who also spoke said sign boards would be put up at several points and the speed limit would be reduced to 40 kms. The BSNL would be requested to set up a temporary ,mobile tower in the ghat section to ensure cell phone connectivity. Arrangements would-be made for lavatory and drinking water and permission would also be granted for movement of LPG lorries and vegetable and other essential goods supplying vehicles to use the road.
Presently, a total of 220 KSRTC buses from Mangaluru, Dharmasthala, Puttur and other places use the route, he informed.
Dr Sharanappa, SP said mirrors would be placed at curves and flex boards giving numbers of police stations and control rooms have been put up at places for people to make emergency calls in times of need.
Shekharappa, Chikkamagaluru DC, Dr Sanjeeva M Patila, Chikkamagaluru SP, Sharadamba, Moodigere Tahsildar, Putta Shetty, Belthangady Tahsildar, Kempananjaiah, KSRTC Mangalore Divisional Controller, Nataraj, NHAI Engineer, Sridhar Nayak, RTO and others were present.
