Rs. 3.8 lakh stolen in broad daylight

Mangalore, August 30, 2011: Unknown thieves decamped with Rs. 3.8 lakh, which was kept in the glove compartment of a Honda Activa parked in the city.

The two-wheeler and the money stolen belong to Kumaraswamy, a contractor of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), who receives contracts to repair roads and other work in Mangalore.

On Tuesday, Kumaraswamy and a labourer called Rajaram went to a bank on K S Rao Road to deposit Rs. 20,000 in his account. He had Rs. 4 lakh with him, but took only Rs. 20,000 with him to the bank, leaving the rest of the cash in the glove compartment of his Activa.

Rajaram waited outside for sometime, but went in a few minutes later because Kumaraswamy called him.

Later, the duo discovered that the glove compartment was wide open and that the cash was missing.

They lodged a complaint with the Bunder police, who have registered a case. Currently, the Bunder police are investigating the case.
