Rs.156 crore revenue collection by Mangaluru RTA, exceeds target

Mangaluru, 20 April 2015: Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has recorded 101.567% achievement in revenue collection for the financial year 2014-15.


RTA Against a target of Rs 153.92 crore, the RTA office collecetd Rs 156.33 crore, Afzal Ahmad Khan, deputy transport commissioner, said.

The office checked and registered cases against 1,535 vehicles during the last fiscal and collected Rs 37,24,959 by way of taxes and fines including Rs 37,11,124 by way of taxes.

Taking a firm step against overloading of vehicles, the office inspected 47,991 vehicles and registered cases against 937 vehicles, collecting fine amount of Rs 3,56,82,098. Likewise, motor vehicle inspectors inspected buses during the last fiscal and registered cases against 324 buses and seized many buses for various violations. Inspections carried out against All India Tourist Omni Buses (AITOB) resulted in the RTA registering cases against 37 AITOBs, Khan said.

Drive against 891 contract carriage vehicles too helped the RTA register cases against 156 such vehicles and resulted in 72 vehicles being seized. Inspections of auto rickshaws results in cases being registered against 136 auto rickshaws. RTA also suspended 48 permits following complaints from commuters of indecent behavior by auto rickshaw drivers and also for demanding excess fare from the commuters after hearing the auto rickshaw drivers and their owners.

Cracking down on noise pollution, RTA registered 951 cases and collected Rs 2,38,800 in the form of fines. Check against air pollution saw 815 cases being registered against owners of vehicles and Rs 2,18,500 collected in the form of fines.
