Mangaluru, Dec 17, 2015: A team of revenue officials under the leadership of the Assistant Commissioner Dr Ashok visited Tokkottu Junction on December 17, Thursday in view of the hurdles in the way of the NH 66 widening works. The officials even oversaw the demolition of a few compound walls and even set next Monday as the deadline to vacate a few shops which have been a stumbling block in the works.
The operation followed the failure of the shop owners concerned to adhere to the notice served to them four weeks ago. The compound walls of REB Complex as well as a vacant ATM kiosk of Axis Bank were demolished.
AC Dr Ashok who led the operation said the road widening work has been impeded due to the failure of the shop keepers to vacate. The non-completion of works has in turn created many problems for locals, he pointed out.
He said the eviction drive would begin on Monday before which the owners should clear the place of all their belongings. The NH widening is in the final phase and the construction of flyover at Tokkottu and a toll gate at Talapady would mean all works are complete, he added. The shops are being cleared to facilitate a service road when the NH works are underway, the Assistant Commissioner informed.
