Residents thwart ongoing SEZ work at Jokatte.

Mangaluru: July 4, 2015: The ongoing work at Mangalore Specal Economic Zone was thwarted by the locals near Jokatte on Friday July 3.

 

 

 

 

The residents of Jokkate have been facing difficult to with the fresh environment, they claimed that the black dust from coke and sulfur unit has been forming filmy layer on their homes and dresses, causing pollution in the environment. Citizen Action Committee which is fighting against the coke and sulfur unit alleged that the unit is polluting the climate. They got strong support from the citizens.

 

The citizen gathered near Jokatte and thwarted the work by stopping giant machine that was operating on Friday 2 pm. The officials immediately informed the police.

 

There was verbal clash between the locals and with the officials of MSEZ till 11 on Friday. The locals alleged that the Mescom and Railway support the work.

 

The police tried to control the situation and assured to register case against the guilty. The machines were then sent back.
