Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Aug 28: When their repeated appeals to concerned authorities regarding the repair of a half-kilometre stretch of road were ignored, around 75 residents of Malemar in Kottara Chowki decided to repair the stretch themselves under the leadership of the Jana Hitharakshana Samithi.
The Samithi had submitted appeals for the repair of the road between the highway and Konchady four months back. The appeal was submitted to Shashidhar Hegde, the corporator of the 17th ward; Shankar Bhat, the corporator of the 23rd ward; as well as the DC, the mayor, and the commissioner.

Since 3 buses ply along the road everyday, the condition of the road worsened as the days passed.

Today, the residents got together to fill the potholes with the help of an earthmover provided by KUDCEMP. They also removed the weeds, which were growing thickly on both sides of the roads.

Kumar Malemar, the president of the Jana Hitharakshana Samithi, said that Corporator Shashidhar Hegde had assured them that the road will soon be concretized. He warned that the Samithi will wait till Oct 15, after which the residents will picket the MCC.
