Reservoirs get water from rain, normal supply in M’luru, Udupi from today, June 23

Mangaluru, June 23, 2019: A generous increase in water flow along Netravati river, has caused water flowing into Thumbay vented dam, the Gods seem to be smiling here. The water shortage problem which was plaguing Mangaluru city since more than a month has been resolved and water is being supplied continuously. With  enough inflow of water, the water level at the Thumbe dam is being maintained at 5 meters, from June 23, Sunday.

Water for Udupi :   Today June 23, Sunday will see Udupi too getting regular water supply from Baje Dam.    Since good rain was experienced in the vicinity of Linganamakki reservoir, water has flown into the reservoir for the first time this season. 445 cusec of water flowed into the reservoir n Friday. Last time, 5,959 cusec of water had flown into the reservoir from Jan 1st to June 21st. But this year, only 487 cusec of water has flown into the reservoir.  This is the first time there has been such a delay in the inflow of water into Linganamakki, which is one of the important water reservoirs in the state. Last year, the water level on the same day stood at 1,765.65 feet while this year the level is at 1,744.65 feet. The maximum level is 1,819 feet.

Moderate rain in DK, Udupi :

 Moderate rain lashed different parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on June 22, Saturday. The sky remained overcast throughout the day.

Udupi district received heavy to normal rainfall in the last 24 hours (ending 8 am on Saturday). The interior areas, in Kundapur and Karkala taluks, reported heavy rain.  Project director, Udupi District Urban Development Cell, said that desilting of Swarna river will be taken up by June 26. Technical evaluation of the work is completed and the work will commence shortly. The desilting task aims at increasing the water storage capacity of Baje dam area for next summer.
