Mangaluru, Jan 27, 2015 : City’s renowned rationalist, consumer activist and President of Federation of Indian Rationalist Association Prof Narendra Nayak has been chosen for the Lawrence Pinto Human Rights Award. The Award is given by ‘Friends of Lawry.’
Speaking to reporters here on January 27, Tuesday, Eric Ozario, Secretary of ‘Friends of Lawry’ said the award presentation ceremony will be held at Kalaangann on January 31 at 5.30 pm.
He also stated that the award will be presented to Prof. Nayak by Dr S Settar, a renowned historian and former director of Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts and former chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research.
Ozario said the award has been instituted in memory of Lawrence Pinto who dedicated his life for the cause of the poor, downtrodden and the working class.
The jury included Prof. Sunney Tharappan, Dr Ravishanker Rao and Dr John Fernandes. Ozario said adding Prof.Narendra Nayak was the unanimous choice of the jury for the first Lawrence Pinto Award.
Loy Noronha, Chairman of Friends of Lawry, Louis Pinto, Joint Treasurer, Walter Veigas, Treasurer, and other office bearers and members were present.
