Udupi, March 4, 2016 :  DC Dr. R Vishal said that most of the renovation work taken up under the Karnataka Health System Development and Reform Project would be completed by March 31.

DC VishalThe remaining work would be completed by April-end. The hospital would have anti-Skid and easily cleanable tile flooring. The sewage problem in the hospital had been comprehensively tackled. The water supply too had been overhauled. The roofing of the hospital too would be renovated to withstand heavy rains and check water leakages.

DC  Dr. R. Vishal, has stated that the renovation of the district government hospital had been taken up at a cost of Rs. 4.95 crore.

He was speaking after launching the Genexpert testing machine donated by the Rotary Club to the hospital here. The machine, which costs Rs. 25 lakh, helps diagnose tuberculosis faster and more accurately.

The renovation of the Ayurvedic wing at the hospital would take some more time. Efforts would be made to start a burns ward at the hospital as soon as possible. Financial modalities to make it functional were being worked out.

The district administration had appointed 49 civic workers in Udupi district. It had approved purchase of more machinery to help them. These included crushers and additional trucks to transport the garbage.

A new beach cleaner machine would be purchased by April-end and used to clean beaches in the district. Better sanitation, sewage treatment and water supply led to a drop in incidences of some diseases.

While donating the Genexpert testing machine was a noble task, making arrangements to run it was an equally challenging work. Maintaining and running the machine would require about Rs. 2.5 lakh every year. He had directed the District Tuberculosis Officer to include its maintenance in the Programme Implementation Plan under the National Health Mission.
