Relieved at last : Scissor left in woman’s stomach removed through surgery

Mangalore, July 1, 2014 : The surgical scissor which was left in the abdomen of a woman during a hysterectomy four years ago, was  removed through a surgery by a team of doctors led by Dr Jameela and Dr Abdul Majeed at Unity Hospital in the city on June 30, Monday.

As it was a rare as well as a serious case wherein the victim Hafza of Madoor near Kotekar has even lodged a police complaint, the entire surgery has been videographed as an evidence. The police have also taken possession of the scissor to be produced before the court. The operation which began at 8 am  ended at 10.30 pm.

The woman had underwent a hysterectomy at Mangalore Nursing Home on February 22, 2010 by  Dr Poornima Nair and Dr Rohan Gatty. However after surgery the woman suffered from several health problems which failed to subside despite treatment.  Finally, as per the suggestion of a doctor, she underwent scanning recently, when the scissor in the pelvic area was noticed. The woman said the doctors at Mangalore Nursing Home, initially tried to shrug off responsibility but later admitted their mistake.
