Recreational club owner Guruprasad Bhat murder in Manipal, 3 arrested

Udupi, July 30, 2018: A person, said to be the owner of a club, was brutally murdered near a recreation club called ‘7th Heaven’ building in Manipal on Sunday, July 29th.


Guruprasad BhaThe deceased has been identified as Guruprasad Bhat (47), a resident of Ambagilu in Puttur.  He was one of the owners of the recreation club and the mureder took place after a weekend party. According to sources, four armed miscreants who came in a Maruti Omni, stabbed the deceased using lethal weapons including swords and machetes. The grievously injured Guruprasad was rushed to hospital at Mainpal but he succumbed on the way.  Manipal police are investigating the murder and suspect that the motive behind the attack may be an old rivalry.

3 arrested:  In a few hours three people suspected to have murdered the club owner were arrested,  Guruprasad Bhat, 46, was the cousin of MLA Raghupathy Bhat, and the owner of 7th Heaven.


The police have arrested Sujith Pinto, Pradeep Poojary and Rajesh near Kunluru bridge in Kundapur late Sunday evening, while one is absconding.

It is said that Bhat was involved in a finance business a few years ago, which is assumed to be the reason for his murder. He also brought out a local newspaper ’Satya News’ a few years ago.
