Udupi, May 8, 2015 :  Errors galore in ration cards, Aadhaar cards, income and caste certificates caused chaos at the taluk panchayat general body meeting held here on May 7, Thursday.

Member Umesh Nayak said income and caste certificates distributed in schools comprise of wrong gender, income status and caste. He said the responsibility was assigned to Vibrant Integration which is paid at least Rs 3.8 lakh for the data entry There have been mistakes galore at the entry stage. 

Member Hebbar said that ration cards too have lots of mistakes, where in majority names and relations are wrongly printed.  He alleged that this was due to sheer negligence.  Member Bhaskar demanded that the people involved in the data entry be taken to task. He said entries need to be cross-verified. A resolution should be passed against irregular entries in ration cards, Aadhaar cards and income and caste certificates, he added.  Member Kulal also joined other members in condemning the mistakes done in the ration cards and Aadhaar cards.  In-charge Executive Officer Rajendra Bekal said he would inform DC  on the irregularities.

Member Hebbar demanded clarification over the criteria on which taxes are levied. He said in Belle gram panchayat, the PDO has charged unreasonable rates.  He alleged that Rs 800 is charged for the person who is supposed to pay Rs 100, while Rs 2,000 for Rs 500. He said although he had sought clarification, he has  not received anything since a month.  The petty shop owners are also charged heavy fees.

He accused panchayat Development Officer has gone to the extent of acting as the supreme power. He questioned the credibility of the local rural governance.   Hebbar also said the census copy of 2011 comprising the details of Belle gram panchayat also has many bllomers.  It needs to be reconsidered as reservation would be decided based on the census of 2011.  The list says that there are nearly 156 people belonging to SC/ST communities in the gram panchayat.

As per the list, there are 29 people belonging to ST communities. However, there are only three people in the region. The total population of Belle gram panchayat is 7130, he added. EO Rajendar Bekal said he would take up the issue with the DC.  The EO also directed the concerned officials to look into the delay in the construction of the open well at Korangrapadi.  He said if the well is not complete within May 30, the contractor would be black listed. Member Bhaskar alleged that Padubidri PHC lacks basic infrastructural facilities a hospital should have.
