Mangalore, July 1: A rash driven goods tempo dashed into a group of Mount Carmel Central School students and their teacher when they were waiting for a bus to take them home, killing one student and injuring others.
The deceased student is Jenita (12) of Class VI, who was waiting for a bus to take her to her grandmother’s house in Suratkal. The group was just 100m from the school gate. The Mangalore Rural (Kankanady) police have registered a case against the tempo driver who dashed the vehicle against a cement structure around the banyan tree close to the school.
Jenita died on the way to the hospital. Lynette, a teacher of Infant Jesus Kannada Primary School, also sustained injuries in this accident. Lynette lodged a complaint at the police station, as per which the police registered a case of fatal accident against the tempo driver. The driver, however, is absconding and police have launched a manhunt for him. The school has organized a condolence meeting on Thursday.
