When he heard that she was pregnant, he made her take medicines that led to the termination of her pregnancy. Then he kidnapped her and kept her at a relative’s house in Kasaragod. Following a complaint in February 2014, the Surathkal police arrested Hameed and later filed a chargesheet.

The judge sentenced Hameed to seven years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 for offences under Sections 376 (rape) and 313 (causing miscarriage without women’s consent) of the IPC and under Section 4 of POCSO Act, 2012. Out of the fine amount, the judge directed payment of Rs. 15,000 as compensation to the girl.

The judge also asked District Legal Services Authority to consider the girl for payment of compensation under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme.
