Ranchi Bishop hails Christian contribution to education, health sectors

Mangaluru, Jan 28, 2018: "Christians are running over 25,000 educational institutions in the country and have made remarkable contributions even in the health sector. Still there are some who say the  community has done nothing for India, regretted Auxiliary Bishop of Ranchi and CBCI Secretary General  Fr Theodore Mascarenhas.


Christianity in India: Opportunity and Challenges


He was speaking at a  seminar on ’Christianity in India: Opportunity and Challenges’ held at St Agnes College auditorium on  January 27, Saturday  under the joint aegis  of Christian Planters’ Guild and Catholic Association of South Kanara. Fr Theodore further stated that Christians are an integral part of the nation and follow the nationalism advocated by Mahatma Gandhi. He also deplored the allegations of conversion made  on the community and questioned how in that case the population of Christians remain at 2 % since so many decades.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangaluru presided over the function. Ronald Colaco, NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist and  Faye D’Souza, Executive Editor of Mirror Now  were honoured on the occasion.

Philomena Peris, President, Christian Planters Guild, R C Rodrigues, President, CASK, Dr Derik Lobo  and others were present.
