Mangaluru, July 10, 2020: Senior Congress leader and former minister B Ramanatha Rai has urged for the setting up of a 1500 bed temporary Covid Hospital in the district in the backdrop of the rising Covid-19 infection cases.
Speaking to reporters at the District Congress Office on July 18, Friday, he said the decision of the administration to dedicate Wenlock as a Covid Hospital has hit hard people with other ailments.
Rai accused the state government as well as the district administration of failing to control the spread of Covid-19. He said the keenness with which the government was working to control spread of the infection initially was not seen now.
He stressed the need for random testing to control spread of Covid-19 in the district. He also pointed out that as many as 30 lives have been lost in Dakshina Kannada district alone while in the whole of Kerala so far only 27 people have succumbed to Covid-19 infection.
Rai also demanded that 10 ambulances should be allotted to each taluk for the benefit of Covid patients.
Former mayors Kavitha Sanil, Shashidhar Hegde, Opposition leader Abdul Ravoof, Corporator Naveen D’Souza and others were present.
