Mangaluru, Sept 2, 2019: Shramadan for Swacchata Abhiyan by Ramakrishna Mission in city carried out cleaning of Urwa Boloor area in city on September 1. The shramadan was flagged off in front of Urwa New Market Complex by Arunangshu Giri, DCP, Mangaluru. Swami Ekagamyanandaji welcomed the volunteers and dignitaries. On this occasion, Subhashchandra, Prof. Sheshappa Amin, Smitha Shenoy, Vasanthi Nayak, Madhuchandra Adyanthaya, Prof. Satish Bhat, Kiran Fernandes, Pravin Shetty and other volunteers took active part.
Speaking on the occasion, Arunangshu Giri said, “Mangalore has always been known for cleanliness and nature. The people of coastal region are educated and enlightened compared to other parts of the state. They always give importance to cleanliness. Such Abhiyans as this give boost to cleanliness. We shall give all necessary support and cooperation to these Abhiyans from our police department. I wish this Abhiyan success.”
Cleanliness: Four spots were identified and were taken up for cleanliness. Heaps of garbage lying beside Koragajja temple in Urwa was removed. Secondly the spot behind Urwa Market was cleared of the debris and garbage by using JCB. Third spot near Sulthan Battery was also cleaned by removing garbage and dirt lying for long. A spot near the drains in Alake was also cleared of the heaps of garbage. The front portion of Urwa Market and the nearby roads were cleaned. Umanath Kotekar and Dilraj Alva guided the volunteers. Students of Nitte Physiotherapy Institute participated in the Abhiyan.
Subhoday Alva, Suresh Shetty and others visited nearby shops and houses and created awareness about hygiene and distributed handbills. Cleaning of compound walls of Wenlock Hospital and university College at Hampankatta with the art work and graphics on cleanliness was continued this week too.
Magic Show for Cleanliness: Ramakrishna Mission Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan is organizing special programme of Magic Shows for Cleanliness in several schools of Udupi District. World famous magician Kudroli Ganesh and his team has already performed such shows in 95 schools of Udupi District. Significance of cleanliness, Waste to wealth, Importance of reuse and recycle and many other issues pertaining to cleanliness are taught through these shows. They are liked by children everywhere for its entertaining educative value. As last year, this year also 100 shows will be organized.
Swacchata Spardha: Under Swacch Manas Abhiyan, Swacchata Spardha competitions were held in about 120 schools in August. About 11000 students participated in these competitions. Drawing and painting competition on the theme, “Swacch Manas – Swacch Bharath” & Essay Competitions on the theme, “Cleanliness – Role; responsibilities of students” were held. About 65 resource persons coordinated these competitions. Ranjan Bellarpady, Convener of Swacch Manas Abhiyan guided them.
