Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata shramdaan transforms city, closing programme on Sept 29

Mangaluru, Sep 28, 2019: The team of ‘Swacchata Yodhas’ and their shramdaan week after week with determination to discourage the public from littering in public places came in for special praise from.

 

 Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru Secretary Swami Jitakamanandaji  told media at Sri Ramakrishna mission premises and also circulated a media information note that there were about 800 to 900 black spots (illegal garbage dumping spots/grounds) across the city. As Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) had removed the concrete garbage bins as part of its mission to make Mangaluru a `bin-less city’, public continued to dump their garbage in the streets and fling them out of their vehicles.

When MCC failed in its attempts, like erecting signboards warning public from throwing their garbage in the streets, spitting and urinating.  Ramakrishna Mission mision has organised regular shramdaan on sundays and helped create a cleaner environment and awareness.

Chief Co-ordinator of Mangaluru Ramakrishna Mission Swachh Soch Programme Ranjan Bellarpady said one ‘Swacchata Worker’ found clinical waste being dumped at a public space. On inspecting its contents, he was shocked to see dentures inside the plastic bag. He immediately contacted the nearest dental clinic and handed over the plastic bag to the staff.


Closing programme Sept 29, tomorrow - Massive Shramadan at Central market

Ramakrishna Mission will end its five-year-long Swachata Abhiyan by organising a massive Shramadan at Central market on September 29, tomorrow  (7.30 am).  With the help of more than 4,000 volunteers, over 23 black spots in and around Central market will be cleared on that day, Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru Secretary Swami Jitakamanandaji said.

On October 2 (9 am), the aesthetically designed Kottara flyover will be inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Selvamani.
