Mangaluru, April 6, 2017 : The Tulunada Rakshana Vedike has urged owners of theatres and multiplexes in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to give priority to screening of Tulu films including the latest film "Chapter." He alleged that some theatres in DK and Udupi districts were harassing Chapter film producers by not giving an opportunity to screen the movie.
Speaking to reporters here on April 6, Thursday, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, Founder President of the Vedike said that it has come the notice of the Vedike that the theatre and multiplex owners were showing a step-motherly attitude towards screening of Tulu movies by charging higher rents and by giving priority to films of other languages. He said the Vedike had even staged a protest putting forth this demand, in front of Platinum theatre on March 14.
Continuing Yogish urged the government to encourage Tulu film industry by setting up mini theatres in district and taluk head quarters and also to constitute a Tulu Film Chamber.
He also threatened that the day may not be far off when people take to the streets if the demands are not fulfilled.
Office bearers of the Vedike were present at the press meet.
