Rains subside: DC’s directive to clear roadsides of all wastes

Mangaluru, August 11, 2019: With the intensity of rains reducing on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has instructed the authorities concerned to clear the roads of   slush, stones and other wastes that may be lying on roadsides.

There is an urgent need to clear the roads of the wastes that have settled due to water logging during heavy rains. The DC has also instructed to provide compensation in accordance to rules to those who suffered loss of property.

The DC said the District has received 2,000 food kits each comprising 10 kg rice, 1 kg tor dal,  salt, sugar and oil. He said the same would be distributed to the flood affected people.

Floodwaters recede in DK
With the water level slowly receding in the Netravathi, Kumaradhara and Phalguni rivers, the city and other parts of Dakshina Kannada are limping back to normalcy.

The water level in the Netravathi river at Bantwal stood at 9 m on Sunday noon. Here, the danger level is 8.5 m. It was at 29.4 m in Uppinangady, where the danger level is 31.5 m. The Kumaradhara river in Uppinangady was at 26 m against the danger level of 26.5 m, according to an official release.
