Rains continue cause havoc in both districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, June 25, 2015 : Intermittent rains and  gale  winds continued to lash coastal districts on June 24, Wednesday. Subrahmanya and surrounding areas of Harihara, Balugodu, Madappady, Guthigaru, Kalmakaru recorded good rainfall.   Hariharapallathadka Government Higher Primary School building was damaged when a jackfruit tree fell on the building. The mishap occurred when classes were in progress. However, all children were safe.  Around 700 rooftiles were damaged along with furnitures in the school.

In the last 24 hrs, the district has received an average of 33.4 mm rainfall. Puttur recorded highest of 55.6 mm rainfall followed by Sullia-42.4 mm.

In Udupi district, gusty winds have damaged a farmer’s house, at Kalmakki in Baindur gram panchayat.  The district received 32.9 mm rainfall for the last 24 hours.Udupi taluk received 25.6 mm, while Kundapur taluk recorded 35.9 mm and Karkala taluk received 32.9 mm rainfall respectively.

In Karkala, a house was damaged after a tree collapsed on the house in Shivapura village in Karkala. The roofs of the houses in Mudaru, and Meeyaru have been damaged owing to gusty wind and rains. The house of one Udaya Madivala was damaged in Heergana in Karkala.  The sea erosion has intensified in Padubidri in Kaup. The wall of the house of Ammanni Ananda collapsed due to wind and rain at Yeriyamadaga village in Athradi in Udupi.  In Kundapur taluk, the house of one Badiya Mogaveera was damaged in Koteshwara after a coconut tree fell on the house.
