Rain in hills brings mercury down marginally on the coast

Mangaluru, April 17, 2016: Reports a fair amount of rain and strong winds in places around Sakleshpur for more than an hour in the early hours of  Apr 16, Saturday, gave  a bit of relief from the sweltering heat for the coastal  residents too.


Houses were damran aged around  in Kushalanagar. A woman was injured.

Dakshina Kannada:  Rain coupled with lightning and thunder lashed parts of Dakshina Kannada district in the wee hours of Apr 16,  Saturday. A man was killed when lightning struck him at Shanthinagara in Indabettu in Belthangady taluk. The deceased has been identified as Jagadish Naik (32).  Power supply was affected in several parts of Uppinangady due to lightning.


While Sakleshpur town and adjoining regions received 45 mm rains, Bage, Kyanahalli, Attihalli, Hongadahall and adjoining regions received 70, 45 and 60 mm of rains respectively. Jankere and Arekere villages recorded 55 mm rains. Halebeedu, Alur, Belur, Hassan and other parts of the district received normal rains. The showers brought cheers for farmers and coffee growers. Mudigere taluk in Chikkamagaluru also received rain early in the morning.

Mandya  :  Standing crops on around 15 acres of land were damaged by rains which lashed parts of Maddur taluk in Mandya district. The loss is estimated at Rs 18.5 lakh. The ‘gopura’ of Chennakeshava temple in Koppa developed a six-foot crack due to lightning.
