Rain in DK, Hassan, Kodagu districts

Mangaluru, Feb 08, 2019: A person was killed after he was struck by lightning at Subrahmanya in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on feb 7,  Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Praveen, son of Krishnappa, a resident of Mithamajalu near Harihara Pallathadka. Praveen was engaged in the masonry work of a building when the lightning struck him. Showers accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Subrahmanya and the surrounding regions in the district.

  A few parts of Hassan district received sudden showers for more than half-an-hour on feb 7, Thursday evening, bringing down the temperature.

While the city and the surrounding areas received moderate rainfall, Alur, Halebeedu, Belur, and other places experienced heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning. A few villages in Konanur hobli received mild showers.

Kodagu district also received good rainfall. Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed Kushalnagar, Anekadu, Somwarpet, Kusabooru and Suntikoppa.

Kambibane received rainfall for more than an hour. For the last couple of days dank weather prevailed in the region and the skies remained overcast, even as coffee growers struggled to dry the Robusta coffee beans.

Coffee growers were anticipating rainfall for the flowering of coffee plants. The showers brought respite to the pepper vines which were withering away under the scorching sun.
