RTO to curb transporting dangerously loaded vehicles

Mangalore, June 12, 2014:The Transport Department has decided to curb vehicles  transporting goods that were significantly protruding out of vehicles, goods or passenger, and also taxis displaying name plates of government organisations.


rto 12Regional Transport Officer, Mangalore, Afzal Ahmed Khan made public that the department has penalised the owners/ drivers of such vehicles even as stringent action would be taken for the repeated offenses.

Since the beginning of June, the department has booked 18 cases against mini-goods vehicles which were transporting, wooden logs and planks, pipes, sheets and many other material projecting out of the vehicle thereby endangering the safety of general public and traffic.

Law exits that transporting goods protruding outside of vehicle of all kinds was prohibited by the Motor Vehicles Act, there are regular instances of violation of the same and the department has been taking action despite severe shortage of motor vehicle inspectors.

On June 10, the RTO  booked cases against six taxis (yellow board cars) hired by various government departments that were displaying the names of the department or “Government of India”. Which not proper. To the relief of the aggrieved the drive will continue henceforth RTO Afzal Ahmed said, to check such violations.
