While checking his belongings, police found that Shivananda Amaravathi is a daily wage labourer who hails from Bagalkot and had been suffering from epilepsy.

Even as the police got suspicious about the manner in which the money was found, the Inspector Protection Force of the Mangalore Central Railway Station contacted Shivananda’s friends on the phone numbers mentioned in Shivananda’s mini handbook. It was later confirmed that he was a labourer and was working in Mangaluru and since he was illiterate, he had kept the money in the plastic bag.

Shivananda’s friend Devananda, along with his friend Guru Prasad, visited the office of the Inspector Protection Force.

After verifying their identity, the amount of Rs 70,240 was handed over to them to deposit the same in a bank in favour of Shivananda.

After depositing the amount in the bank, the statement of passbook was verified through WhatsApp. Shivananda has expressed his gratitude to RPF department for their timely assistance.
