Mangaluru, Feb 07, 2017: Several private buses operating on the Mangaluru-Udupi-Kundapur route have reportedly increased their fares on the pretext that they have to pay toll. The move of the private buses even before the toll collection has commenced has irked commuters on this route.
Many passengers have complained that it was unfair on the part of the bus operators to collect higher fares.
Meanwhile , Canara Bus Operators Association President Rajavarma Ballal says the hike in fare is inevitable as the buses will have to pay toll at Hejamady and Gundmi toll gates.
But the question of the passengers is how can the bus operators take a unilateral decision to increase the fares without consultation with RTO which is the decision making body.
Here it has to be mentioned that some buses have been collecting higher fares above the fares fixed by the RTO even before the setting up of the toll gate.
K Suresh Nayak, Secretary of Canara Bus Operators Association while admitting that bus fares have been hiked, said the revised fare as per the revision made by the RTO earlier is being implemented now as there were some glitches in ticketing machine. He also stated that fares of all city buses of Udupi too would be revised shortly.
