Puttur : Tulu academy holds award function

Puttur, Apr 28, 2015:  District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said that  Tulu, the lingua franca, is a prominent ancient dravida language, it is the mother tongue of most in DK and very much alive in various parts of the world.  Speaking at a function presenting Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy honorary awards and Tulu book awards, at Jain Bhavan, in Puttur on April 26.  Many languages in India have vanished due to lack of usage.  Tuluvas have been making good use of Tulu uniformly every where and the language is very live and growing. Tuluvas are ever present in countless places inthe world now keeping this beautiful language alive.  Unified efforts to add Tulu to the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution is the immediate need.

B Ramanath Rai..Gerthila Devu Poojary, K Vishwanatah Rai Bellare and Manu Idya were awarded Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy honorary awards for 2013, for their contribution to the fields of folk, Yakshagana and literature, respectively. Jayamma Chettimada and Prashanth Ram Kottari were presented with Academy book awards in novel and research categories respectively.  Gerthila Devu Poojary, who is one of the awardees, is 107 years old.  He was a catalyst for Kambala sport and has won more than two thousand awards, including Kambala Rathna.

Odiyuru Kshetra seer Sri Gurudevanada Swamiji said that Tulu language can be preserved with better love of this language, for  it  has live feeling in it and can grow to unimaginable heights. Tulu language has an indelible link to agriculture, he added.
