Puttur-Kukke Subrahmanya Road water logged near temple town

Subrahmanya, July 20 2017: Reports received confirms that the heavy rain in the region and the Kukke Subrahmanya area since two days has resulted in the Puttur-Kaniyoor-Panja- Kukke Subrahmanya Road water logged by  Kumaradhara river water near the temple town on July 19, Wednesday.

Movement of vehicles on the road between the temple town and Balpa has come to a stand still.  People from Kukke Subrahmanya had to reach Panja via Kadaba on Kadaba-Uppinangady Road. The Snana Ghatta (bathing place) on the river side in the temple town was also submerged under water. The bathrooms and dressing rooms built for tourists at the Snana Ghatta were also water logged.

The old bridge connecting Kukke Subrahmanya with Kulkunda, Gundia and Kadaba remained submerged. It did not affect traffic as a new elevated bridge has been built on the side. Hence, pilgrims travelling between Dharmasthala and Kukke Subrahmanya were not affected.

Met office says Sullia recorded 78.3 mm rainfall in 24 hours ended at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Belthangady recorded 72.8 mm, Bantwal 59.8 mm, Puttur 59 mm and Mangaluru received 43.8 mm rainfall during the period.

The water level in the Netravathi at Bantwal stood at 5.5 m against the danger level of 8.5 m. Public is warned to be cautious as more rain is forecast.
