The injured namely Chandravathi of Kumble Mayiltady,Ummakke and the child have been admitted to a hospital in Puttur.

The family members and relatives of a prospective groom were travelling in the bus after the engagement held at Town Bank Auditorium of Puttur. The bus had come from Mayippady and was on its return journey when the mishap took place. Luckily the rear portion of the bus was entangled in the roots of a huge tree lest there would have been several causalities.

The place where the accident took place came on the Manjeshwar-Subrahmanya State Highway and several accidents had taken place at the spot earlier too. The repeated appeals to the  PWD to put up a railing on either sides of the road had fallen on deaf ears.

The bus was later lifted from the gorge with the help of a crane. Hundreds had gathered at the scene of the accident and the Puttur Rural Police had a tough time in regulating traffic. It is being said the driver of the bus was drunk and that negligent driving was the reason for the mishap.
