Protest on price rise: CPI (M) calls for all-India strike on September 7

Mangalore, August 13: Comrade V. J. K. Nair, the Karnataka state secretary of CPI (M), said that all organizations will organize an all-India strike on September 7 in protest against the hike in price of fuel and other essentials.

He was addressing the district-level workers’ convention jointly organized by INTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS, AIBEA, AIIEA, BEFI, BSNLEU, RMS & MMSEU, and DREU at Town Hall on Aug 13, Friday.

He said that the policies of the state government have most affected the workers of the unorganized sector and urged the government to abolish the contract labour system and extend security for contract workers.

Criticizing the state government for failing to keep its promise of supplying 35kg of rice at Rs. 2 per kg to BPL families in the state, he suggested that the state government should approach the central government for subsidy.

Regarding illegal mining, he said that nobody had the right to use the state’s natural resources for personal benefits.

K. Gunashekar, P. R. Karanath, Raghavendra, B. Madhava, Sadashiva Shetty, Vishwanatha Naik, and Mohammed Rafi were also present.
