Prof Sa Shi Marulaiah inaugurates sammelan

Mangalore, Apr 30: The Mangalore Unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishad organized the annual taluk-level Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Town Hall on April 30, Friday. The Town Hall and its surroundings have been decorated like a village.

Renowned litterateur Prof Sa Shi Marulaiah said after inaugurating the sammelan that the city contains many things of beauty, but one requires the eyes to appreciate it. Speaking about the differences between civilization and culture, he said that civilization is “what one has got” and culture is “what one is.” He advised parents to not only provide quality education to their children, but also give importance to their health and guide them to develop their creative power. 

Mayor Rajani Dugganna hoisted the national flag. President of DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishad Pradeep Kumar Kalkura hoisted the flag of Karnataka. Former president of DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishad Harikrishna Punaroor presided over the programme. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the exhibition mart; and MLA K Abhaychandra Jain inaugurated the book exhibition. Senior litterateur Prema Bhat released Mundattha J Shankar Bhat’s book on the occasion. Veteran writer Bola Chittaranjan Shetty, the president of the Sammelan, spoke about the creation of literary work.  

MLAs Yogish Bhat, Abhayachandra Jain, U T Khader, and Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar were present on the occasion.
